PhD in Plant Pathology

PhD Fire blight 2012
The Plant Pathology Group of the Institute of Integrative Biology, ETH Zürich, in
collaboration with Agroscope ACW Wädenswil is looking for a talented and motivated PhD student to start an exciting project. The project deals with the problem of fire blight, which is caused by the pathogen Erwinia amylovora. The project aims to describe and compare the different defense mechanism observed in the resistant accessions by mean of RNA sequencing. The proposed topic is of highly relevance for the apple production at European level and worldwide as fire blight is the most damaging bacterial disease of pomoidaee (apple, pear and quince). As two of the European leading groups in apple research, we offer an excellent working atmosphere in an international group.

Education

The candidate should hold a diploma/master degree in biology or agronomy acceptable for direct matriculation at the ETH and should have a strong background in bioinformatics and analysis of next-generation sequencing data. Excellent English knowledge is required.
